A wrap up of The Sketchbook Project

One totally awesomeballs thing I’ve done in the past 12 months was to participate in The Sketchbook Project. “What’s that all about?” I hear you ask. Well in a nutshell the lovely folk at The Arthouse Co-op send you out a blank sketchbook to fill with whatever takes your fancy then you send it back to them and they catalogue it into a big fat travelling art library. The sketchbooks then head off like good little rock stars on a boozy world tour so people everywhere can check them out. Once they recover it’s back to The Brooklyn Art Library [tell me more, tell me more]

Evolution of The Blue Belles

Once again I’ve been a bit slack with the old blog posts. Life is busy. What can I say? Here is a quick little post about my last painting for 2011. As usual I didn’t have a title so I put it out to my peeps on Facebook and the lovely Mel from Meliesque Art suggested I call them The Blue Belles. I loved it so that became the title. In my mind these girls were upset with their lives so decided to become runaways, sisters who were willing to escape to anywhere as long as they were together. So [tell me more, tell me more]

Guitar Chicks ROCK!!

I’ve been a bit quiet lately. Life is busy with 2 little ones to chase after and I’ve been suffering from a bit of a creative block unfortunately (creative blocks suck btw). Good news is I think the block has lifted and I will have some new art to share very soon. Yay!! In the meantime I can finally share my finished Rock Chick painting that I did as a commission for a very dear friend of mine. This little piece was created as a gift for a Bona Fide Rock Chick from Singapore who just had a little baby rock [tell me more, tell me more]

A Little Bit About "Coralei"

My latest artwork is yet another mermaid. I always look at my other mermaids and just want to redo them all. Instead I thought I would just start a fresh one. I love seeing progress shots so here are a few of Coralei. I’ll explain a bit about her name in a sec. So when I started her I knew I would give her coral coloured hair so in my mind her name was Coral. As I painted her though I knew Coral wasn’t right. I even asked on my facebook page for suggestions as I wasn’t sure what to [tell me more, tell me more]

Miss Polly

Some new art to share today, yay!! So here is Miss Polly. She is my first painting on wood panel. I was going for a vintage doll sort of a look. I will write some more about her a bit later though, for now I just wanted to share. There are a couple of progress shots on my Facebook page if you are interested.

The Secret Life of a Wannabe Artist

If there’s one thing you should know about me it is that I am extremely self critical and insanely protective of all that I do and I am a rather private person in real life. When it comes to my so called art I constantly battle with the “your stuff is really crap” voice that plays over and over in my head. Someone the other day told me this means that I truly do have the heart and mind of an artist but to me I just think “no, maybe it’s just because my stuff really is crap”. So anyway [tell me more, tell me more]

What an Epic Day of Firsts

So today was such a massive day for me. I finally clicked the magic button and listed my first ever product on Etsy. Yay!!! It was so exciting. I quickly whizzed over to the “Recently Listed” page and waited patiently to see my little painting pop up on the feed. I was so overwhelmed when I saw it I can’t even tell you. The funny part is in my head all I could hear was “We did it, we did it”. Definitely too much Dora The Explorer in this house I think :) Below is a little photo I took to [tell me more, tell me more]

A Little Bit about "Violet" from the "Mermaids for Milla"

My “Mermaids for Milla” series started out with just one little dreamy mermaid who is now known as “Violet”. I innocently asked my 3 year old daughter Milla what I should paint today. Her enthusiastic response was “Merliah”. Those of you who have little girls may know her from the Barbie movie “A Mermaid Tale”. Milla is a little obsessed with her Barbie movies at the moment and is especially enchanted by Mermaids of all shapes and sizes (who isn’t??) So anyway a Mermaid it was.  I like seeing artists works in progress so here are a few little pics [tell me more, tell me more]

Prepare to launch

Well it’s been a long process but I’m almost ready to launch my Blog, Etsy, Madeit and Facebook Pages. Yeah I know a bit much all at once but oh well. Once it’s set up I can get back to my art and relax a little. No one else is ever going to do it for me so I might as well get stuck into it all at the same time. It’s actually been nice to use my brain for a change. :)
